Women in Pakistan continue to be treated as second class citizens…

Continuously being told what to wear, eat, whom to marry, how many children to have, whether or not to go outside home, study, and of course, work.

The limitations are endless.

Independence, freedom, and choices are minimal…

Did you know?

There are total of 119.3 million women in Pakistan, accounting for 49.6% of the total population.

Yet only around 16.5 million women are a part of the labor force.

Female labor force participation stands at around 23% (25% for women with a university degree).

That’s among the lowest in South Asia and around half the world average.

What’s more is that over 50% of the women who do work, work primarily in the home or on the farm, remaining unrecognized and unpaid, perpetuating a vicious cycle of silent exploitation and abuse – at home and work.

From a lack of conducive policy support, mobility restrictions and social, cultural, and religious norms to relatively lower levels of education, skills, and access to finance, the barriers to women’s participation are aplenty!
